Between junior and senior years in high school, Abbi’s mother asked her “what do you want to do with your career?” Abbi responded “I want to travel the world and make people happy.” Her mom quickly replied, “Maybe a career in hospitality?” Abbi hasn’t looked back since.
She attended the College of Charleston, S.C., receiving her B.A. in Hospitality, Tourism Management and Business Administration. While in school she worked at a variety of restaurants. She gained experience working design and decor for events. She was employed as a Banquet Manager by the age of 20.
After school she moved to North Carolina and worked at the award-winning Greystone Inn and managed the restaurant and events. From there, she became part of the Marriott International Voyage Program to learn management skills from prestigious venues around the U.S. This relocated her to Denver C.O. to the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center overseeing 1,501 Rooms and 500,000 square feet of meeting space.
As her credentials piled up she relocated again to San Francisco working events at the Westin St. Francis and taking in the amazing food scene making trips up and down the California Coast. This year she moved to Albany N.Y. to be closer to family and loved the opportunities working for Mazzone Hospitality offered.
Abbi loves to cook. She tries to follow a strict regimen of only going out to places where she struggles to recreate their food at home. Even then she tries to recreate things she saw at those restaurants and learn to cook even more things. Italian and lots of Asian cuisines are restaurants she chooses to go out to. She loves her garden and cooking using fresh ingredients. She has a couple Gullah Geechee cuisine tricks up her sleeve from growing up in South Carolina. They often find their way to her table.
Abbi has visited 26 countries and loves sampling regional cuisines. She is an avid learner, reader and constantly improving her skill set to be ready to take on anything. When not working a banquet or event you are most likely to find her outside hiking, paddle boarding, being on the water or in her garden.
